Lyndsey Goddard is a London-based photographer who travels all over. Her forte is capturing naturalistic moments, real smiles and quirky details, which give you a sense of what the day was really like.

Unlike some photographers, she doesn’t do that sneaky thing of holding you to ransom over the prints. Instead she gives you a disc with all your pictures on, so you can get as many photos printed as you like. Plus, you get a hardback coffee table book with all your pictures beautifully laid out in it, which is the icing on the cake, in my book.

Lovely shallow depth of field, interesting composition - these are the things that make hiring a photographer worth it.

  1. Wedding photography need not cost a fortune. I and some other new businesses that I am aware of have started up as graduates with little wedding photography experience and prices to reflect this. My day rate is £300, and then I can advise couples on budget printing options widely available. I can honestly say that contracting a professional (even if inexperienced) will always give you better results than the layperson. Just take a look at your friends’ Facebook pictures if you’re not convinced!

Avoid looking at glossy adverts or wedding fairs as this is where the additional money that you spend will be going! There are some student job websites and sites like Gumtree where you’re likely to find a photographer for a reasonable cost.

Good luck, and don’t spend a fortune.
